FAQs

  • I am located in Wellington, New Zealand but also offer services via zoom.

  • Reiki, a healing technique with ancient roots, was rediscovered and popularised in the 19th century by Dr. Mikao Usui in Japan. The term "Reiki" is derived from the Japanese words "rei" (universal or spiritual) and "ki" (life force energy), representing a universal life force energy believed to promote healing and well-being. While its exact origins and transmission through ancient cultures are subject to debate, Reiki has gained significant popularity in recent decades as a complementary therapy.

  • Your body has a complex network of energy pathways. Just like electricity flows through wires, energy flows through your body. This energy is influenced by subtle energy fields, often referred to as biofields. This field plays a crucial role in regulating various physiological systems, including respiration, immune response, and blood circulation. When these fields are balanced and flowing freely, you feel healthy and vibrant. When energy becomes stagnant or blocked in your chakras (energy centres), it can create imbalances in the body's systems. This can manifest as physical symptoms, emotional distress, or spiritual disharmony.

Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive healing technique that helps restore balance to your energy system. When performed, a Reiki practitioner channels universal life force energy through their hands, which interact with the recipient's biomagnetic field. This process is said to help to clear energy blockages and promote the harmonious flow of energy throughout the body.

Reiki is a holistic system for balancing, healing, and harmonising all aspects of the person—body, mind, emotions, and spirit. It can be used to address physical ailments, emotional distress, and spiritual imbalances.

  • In person:

During an in-person Reiki session, you'll be guided into a peaceful, relaxing space with soft music playing. As you lie down and relax into a theta state, I will begin moving my hands (hovering) over different energy centres of your ody, using specific hand positions and symbols to help release blocked or stagnant energy.

You may experience sensations of warmth, tingling, or a sense of deep peace. Some people may also have vivid imagery or see colours. The goal is to create a calming environment where healing energy can flow freely. After a Reiki session, many people report feeling deeply relaxed, rejuvenated, and emotionally balanced.

What if I don’t live in Wellington? Distance Or Online Session:

As a Reiki practitioner, I offer distance Reiki sessions to those who are unable to receive in-person treatments. Distance Reiki involves sending healing energy to the recipient from a distance, leveraging the concept of quantum entanglement. Despite the physical distance, the healing energy is just as effective, as Reiki transcends time and space.

This requires either a video call or photo in order to establish a connection.

  • Yes! Group Reiki sessions offer a variety of formats to suit different preferences and needs. In addition to traditional Reiki circles, I also offer group sessions where multiple participants receive Reiki simultaneously in a lying down position. Whether you prefer the interactive nature of a Reiki circle or the relaxation of a lying down session, both formats can provide a valuable healing experience.

  • The ideal frequency of Reiki sessions depends on your individual needs and goals. Here are some general guidelines:

    • General well-being: For overall energy balancing and stress relief, a monthly or bimonthly session can be beneficial. The effects of a Reiki session can often be felt for up to 21 days.

    • Specific concerns: If you're dealing with particular physical or emotional issues, more frequent sessions, such as bi-weekly, might be helpful. Once initial goals are achieved, less frequent sessions can maintain balance.

    • Listen to your intuition: Ultimately, the best frequency is the one that feels right for you. Consider Reiki as a supportive tool that's available whenever you need it.

    And remember,

    • There is no such thing as too much Reiki: Reiki is a gentle and safe practice, and there's no risk of overdoing it.

  • Whilst reiki is traditionally associated with spiritual practices, it is gaining increasing attention within the scientific community. Numerous studies have explored its potential benefits, with findings suggesting that Reiki can:

    • Reduce stress and anxiety: Studies have shown that Reiki can help calm the nervous system, promoting relaxation and reducing stress-related symptoms.

    • Alleviate pain: By promoting relaxation and reducing muscle tension, Reiki has shown to be effective in alleviating pain associated with various conditions.

    • Boost the immune system: Some research indicates that Reiki may enhance the body's natural healing abilities.

    • Improve emotional well-being: Reiki has shown to help address underlying emotional imbalances, promoting emotional healing and resilience.

For instance, a comprehensive review of 13 peer-reviewed studies on Reiki assessed its effectiveness beyond placebo effects and found Reiki to provide a number of benefits, including reducing heart rate and blood pressure, increasing heart rate variability, inducing physical relaxation, and managing both acute and chronic conditions such as pain, anxiety, and depression.

While further research is needed to fully understand the mechanisms behind Reiki's effects, the growing body of scientific evidence suggests that it may be a valuable complementary therapy for many people.
